This is the Frequently Asked Question page. Here you will - hopefully - be able to find answers to the most commonly asked questions.
What is all of this?
Put simply, it's a MUSH based on the show My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic. More specifically it is a text-based roleplaying game where fans of the show can meet other fans and have fun roleplaying their own pony characters and participate in various original plots.
Equestrian Dawn is home to both experienced MU* players and the less experienced, it is a friendly and social place where everyone is welcome, so come have fun here!
Getting a Character
Getting a character on Equestrian Dawn is easy, simply follow the instructions on how to connect below and use the create command to apply for a character.
Specifically you type: create <name> <password> to create a character with the name <name> and the password <password>.
Getting an account on the wiki
Getting an account on the wiki is also easy, simply click the Log-in/Register link placed in the upper right corner any page on the wiki, fill in the information required and you are good to go.
Connecting to the MUSH
First you will need a client capable of connecting to a MUSH, in a pinch a regular telnet or SSH client will do, however, this is not an optimal solution. Listed beneath are a few client options for a few different operating systems, this is by no means an exhaustive list.

After you have downloaded and installed a client you will need to point it at: mush.equestriandawn.com at port 8789 (or better yet, enable SSL/TLS on port 8790!) and you're on your way!
How do I create/edit pages on the wiki?
How to create a new page in the wiki

The simplest way of creating a new page in the wiki is to link it in another page and then following that link. This is done by inserting something like [[Name of new page|Text to display]] this will insert: Text to display into whatever page you are editing. Naturally if you are creating a page this way you would have to insert the link in a relevant location or article.
Another way to create a new page is simply to navigate to a nonexistent page in the wiki, for example: http://eqdawn.hoofington.com/MyExampleLink will take you to the nonexistent wiki article called MyExampleLink. In the event you need to have spaces in the page name you should underscores like so: http://eqdawn.hoofington.com/My_Example_Link . Keep in mind that if you use the latter method you will be creating an "orphan" page, that is to say a page that will on be reachable with someone who has the direct link, via the search function or the "Random page" function.
Using either of these methods will take you to a blank page which you can then edit.
How to edit pages
Editing and formatting articles in wiki can be an expansive task, a good place to start is at the Editing Help page.
So I got my character, now how do I do stuff?
The basic commands for talking and posing on the MUSH are as follows:
say <message> prints: <your name> says <message> quotation marks are automatically inserted. Alternatively say can be replaced by "<message> for the same effect.
pose <message> prints <your name> <message> this does not automatically insert the word 'says' or any quotation marks. Alternatively pose can be replaced by :<message> for the same effect. Pose will always insert a space after your name, so in the event you wish to use a possessive form of your name you will need to use ; (semicolon) in place of : (colon), this will not insert a space after your name.
@emit <message> prints <message> with out your name or anything else, @emit can be replaced with \<message> for the same effect.
+ooc <message> prints [OOC] <your name> says <message, this is for talking out of character in the In-Character areas. If you use +ooc :<message> it will function as pose and still insert the [OOC] in front.
+who lists every character currently connected and their locations. This command allows for a degree of customization of its output, for more information type +who/help.
+pot lists the idle times and the time since last pose by anyone in the same room as you. +pot/set will set the scene pose to your last pose and +pot/scene will show the set scene pose if one is set.
Those are the basic commands you will need to know for roleplaying on Equestrian Dawn. A few other commands that might be useful to know are:
page <name>=<message> this will send a message to the character <name> saying <message>. The message will reach the character no matter where they are on the MUSH and is private, no-one besides the character the page is sent to will see it.
whisper <name>=<message> functions like page but will only work with characters in the same room.
@mail <name> = <subject>/<message> used to contact someone who is currently offline, this will send a @mail (not an e-mail) to <name> with the subject <subject> and the body <message>, the @mail system is quite advanced, more information on the system can be found by typing help @mail.
Using the channels
As you might have noticed by now Equestrian Dawn has its own chat system, what follows here is only the basic usage of the @chat system, more information can be found by typing help @channel.
@channel/list lists all available channels and displays the number of users who subscribe to that channel, bear in mind that the number of users also includes offline players as well as alts of players.
@channel/who <channel> displays the number of people currently on <channel> and whether they are gagging that channel.
@channel/on <channel> joins <channel>
@channel/off <channel> leaves <channel>
@channel/gag <channel> prevents you from hearing messages on <channel> this will reset when you disconnect.
@channel/ungag <channel> let's you hear messages on <channel> again.
@channel/mute <channel> will prevent you from seeing <name> has connected/disconnected on <channel>, this will stay through disconnects.
